My memories from before and after the liberation of Nicaragua

I was born in Puerto Cabezas in 1918. My mother was so poor she didn’t have shoes, she went barefoot. My father fled from the repression of Somoza, and my godfather, was killed by the hired hands of Somoza. My mother died when I was six and my mother’s sister adopted me. Since then my life has been a continuous misfortune.

Puerto Cabezas was owned by North Americans. Boats from the US came and took out huge quantities of wood. When there was no more to take, the company demolished the mill and left our mountains
