So I moved to Managua, thinking that in the capital my sons would go unnoticed. It was the same. In 1967 all four of them were jailed, but first they were interrogated. It is difficult to believe how badly they were tortured… they were burned with cigarettes, wetted down and poked with electric wires. They were given salt water to drink and food mixed with Pinesol. A 500 watt light was put in their face and they weren't allowed to close their eyes. Their hair was cut to the root, their heads were greased and they were left in the sun. A wire was tied to their testicles and pulled on until they fainted.
